In 2014, Nike declared March 26 as “Air Max Day,” a brand-created holiday celebrating the first-ever release of the Air Max 1 in 1987 that kicked off the now-classic Air Max line.
The Air Max 1 was conceptualized by the legendary Tinker Hatfield. It was the first shoe to have a visible Air unit on the midsole, making it a pioneer of the visible cushioning setup and one of the most important innovations for Nike, which continues to make new Air Max shoes decades later.
Every year since the introduction of Air Max Day in 2014, sneaker fans have not only celebrated the holiday by breaking out their personal favorite Air Max styles from their collection but also by participating in Nike’s high-heat launches prepared around and during March 26.
Coinciding with Air Max Day this year, we take a look back at some of the best Air Max Day releases thus far.
